
Jack Harold Burch, age 92, of Locust, died July 24, 2018. Â Born February 3, 1926 in Monroe, he was the son of the late Julius Jasper Burch and Emma Fowler Burch. Â He attended Bain High School and North Carolina State University. Mr. Burch joined the Army Air Corp in December 1943 and served during World War II as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 with the 15th Air Force, 99th Bombardment Group. Â He flew combat missions out of Foggia Italy to destroy strategic military sites south of Berlin.
Mr. Burch worked for Southern Bell (later known as AT&T) as a switchman and retired in 1981 after 35 years of dedicated service. Â He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed bowling – wining several senior tournaments in Charlotte and the state after the age of 70. Mr. Burch also enjoyed horseback riding, hunting and camping.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Sunday at McEwen Funeral Service – Mint Hill Chapel. Graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Monday at Sunset Memory Gardens.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Burch was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Coates Burch; and son, Julius Wayne Burch. Â Survivors include daughters, Cindy (Herman) Starnes and Terrie Burch; and grandchildren, Christie (Marc) Cornett, Vicki (Marcus) Toomey, Tracey (Mark) Northan, Debbie Basket and Alan Burch; and numerous great grandchildren.
