Howard Larkin Speer, Jr., 56, of Albemarle went to his heavenly cabin by the river on February 27, 2018. A Celebration of Life and Memories will be held at Morrow Mt. State Park Lodge on March 18, from 2 until 6 PM. Hal was a kind and gentle soul; a “good man” friends would say. He had a great love for the outdoors, fishing, camping or simply sitting by a roaring fire made him happy. Hardly a weekend went by that he didn’t make a visit to Morrow Mt. State Park, he and Amy’s getaway place. He also enjoyed his time as Cubmaster to Pack 560.
He worked for 20 years for Schult Homes in Rockwell. Hal was a loving husband and big brother. Although he had no children of his own, he was so proud to be called Uncle.
In addition to his wife Amy Samuels Speer, he is survived by his brothers Cecil Andrew (Andy) Speer and wife Lisa, David Allen Speer and wife Penny, and Brian Neil Speer, sister Heather Speer Hogan and husband James, nieces and nephews Jennifer, Zoe, Michael, Austin, Jana, Alex, Dalton, Haley, Hunter, Ray, Chloe, Rylee, and Annabelle. Other special people in Hal’s life were Aunts Carol and Terry, his many cousins, special friend Gary, and his wife Amy’s family who he loved very much.
The family wishes to express special thanks for the love and kindness from Union Chapel UMC and care team. What a blessing they have been. Also they wish to thank Levine “Roy Hinson” Cancer Institute. Hal thought highly of “the girls” and Dr. Induru and Community Homecare and Hospice of Troy. God Bless you all.
The family wishes that memorials be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, to the Levine Cancer Center or to Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care of Albemarle is serving the Speer Family.
