During their August meeting, the Red Cross Town Council discussed text amendments to the town’s zoning ordinance. The following Articles of the Town of Red Cross Zoning Ordinance were updated: Article III Establishment of Districts, Article IV Additional Conditions for Certain Uses, Article V Design Standards, Article VII Sign and Lighting Standards, Article VIII General Provisions, Article IX Administration, and Article X Definitions of Terms Used In This Ordinance.
After hearing no comments during a public hearing on the matter, the council approved the amendments.
Council member Kelly Brattain said the zoning updates were the result of “a lot of hard work. A lot of hours were put into it.”
Mayor Larry Wayne Smith expressed his appreciation to those who worked to amend the zoning ordinance. “I appreciate the work that the Planning Board, Robbie [Foxx, Zoning Enforcement Officer] and Michael [Sandy, Stanly County Planning Director] did on this.”
In other matters:
- The council approved the financial report for the month of July.
- Council member J.J. Curlee said he contacted the Department of Transportation regarding trash pickup along the highway. He reported that Stanly County inmates no longer pick up trash; however inmates from other counties do. The Town of Red Cross is now on a waiting list for a team to pick up trash.
