
Upcoming Events, Trips & Programs:
Carolina Shag Classes: A new 6 week series is starting Tuesday, September 19th-Oct 24th. Instructor Pat Abbott will be here to teach the popular Carolina Shag. Class time is 6:30 pm. No partner is required; cost is $30 for the entire 6 weeks.
Ballroom Dance Classes: Ballroom Dance classes will begin Tuesday, September 19th-Oct. 24th. Class begins at 7:30 pm and could include dances such as fox trot, salsa, swing etc. Class cost is $30 per person. A partner is not required.
Line Dance Classes: Instructor Laura Almond will begin classes on Monday, September 25th and run until Oct. 30th. Class time is 6:15 pm. Cost is $20 for the entire 6 weeks. No partner is required.
Friends Cards & Game Night Benefit: Join us on Monday, September 18th at 5:30 pm for a fundraiser to help raise funds to support the senior center and their services. Any and all games can be played. $10 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the Senior Center. Food will be served.
September Monthly Luncheon: Thursday, September 21st at 11:30 am. Our program will be provided Jan Geotz from Community Home Care & Hospice and topic to be discussed are Living Will and Power of Attorney. Join us for the informational program along with a spaghetti lunch with salad, bread stick and chocolate cake for $6.00.
Monthly Dance: Join us on Friday, October 20th for night out with friends and great music. The dance begins at 7:30 pm admission is $1. We do ask that you bring a finger food for everyone to enjoy and your dancing shoes.
Monthly Bingo: The last Monday of every month. This month, September 25th will be sponsored by Great American Senior Benefits. Bingo starts at 3 pm. Please RSVP the week before.
Veteran’s Club Breakfast: The last Tuesday of every month at 9 am. Tuesday, September 26th. Join us for coffee and breakfast. Breakfast is sponsored by Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. All Veterans of all branches are welcome!
Ladies Lunch Bunch: Meets the 1st Thursday of the month at 11:30 am at local restaurants around Stanly County. If you’re looking for a chance to get out for lunch and meet a fun and inviting group of ladies then join us on October 4th at Pizzantica (new Italian restaurant by Hobby Lobby.)
Supper Club: Good friends, good food, and a good time! Join us on October 13th at 6 pm at Ly Cuisine. Please RSVP by calling the senior center the Friday before.
Readers & Eaters Book Club: Meets the first Wednesday of every month at 10:30 am. Join this fun and interactive book club that reads and discusses a variety of genres. Reading in September, Girl Waits with Gun by Amy Stewart. They will discuss this book on Wednesday, Oct. 4th.

Medicare Open Enrollment: Do you or a loved one have a Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage Plan? If so, it’s time to review plans during Open Enrollment time from October 15th-December 7th. Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) can help you compare plans and determine if a change is needed. To schedule an appointment please call 704-986-3813 after Oct. 2nd. Powerful Tools for Caregivers: This is an educational series designed to provide family caregiver with the tools they need to take care of themselves. It will help you reduce stress, improve self-confidence, better communicate your feelings, balance your life, increase ability to make tough decisions and locate helpful resources. Matter of Balance Class: Are you concerned about your balance or possibly falling? Then join us for this 4 week class to help reduce your fear of falling and increase your activity levels. We will work towards improving your balance, flexibility and strength. Class will meet every Monday & Wednesday, Oct. 23rd-Nov. 15th from 11 am-1 pm. A light lunch will be served. Living Healthy with Diabetes: Join us for a 6 week series that will help support you, find practical ways to deal with your health, discover better nutrition and exercise choices while living with Diabetes. This is a free workshop that will help you take control of your health. The class will meet every Wednesday starting Nov. 1st-Dec. 6th from 2-4 pm. Please call 704-986-3769 to register.
Trips:
Fall Mountain Trip: Tuesday, October 17th. Cost is $69 per person (due at time of registration.) Join us as we travel to the mountains of Western NC. Our day will be filled with wonderful mountain stops. We will visit Grandad’s Apple Orchard to pick up fresh apples and take in the scenery. We will head into downtown Hendersonville for lunch & shopping. We’ll take in the fall leaves as we enjoy or Lake Lure boat tour across the lake and visit the iconic spots from Dirty Dancing and the Lake Lure Inn & Spa. Southern Christmas Show Trip: Tuesday, November 14th. Cost is $49 per person (lunch is included with price.) Get into the Holiday spirit with us as we travel over to Charlotte to enjoy one of the largest Christmas events in the South. Since 1968, this event has more than 650 exhibitors featuring decorated Christmas trees, giant old towne village of shops, festive decor, miniature village and doll house competition, Santa Claus, cooking clinics, hundreds of crafters and artists demonstrating and selling their unique treasures, model trains and miniature house displays, musical performances, puppet shows, gift and decorations for the holiday season. We will travel over and enjoy lunch at Cracker Barrel before we shop until we drop at the Southern Christmas Show.
Christmas Delights & Sites: Friday, December 8th. Cost is $45 per person. It’s Christmas time and that means it’s time to see some lights! Travel with us and enjoy Gingerbread Lane at Ballentyne Resort in Charlotte. Here you can walk along and see all the creative gingerbread houses that individuals have entered into a contest to raise money for the Levine Children’s Hospital. Then we’ll head over to Southpark Mall for some last minute Christmas shopping and dinner (own your own.) Once we have our bellies nice and full we’ll board the bus and relax as we take in the lights of McAdenville.
Christmas time in Memphis & Nashville: Enjoy a 4 day/3 night “Blue Christmas” trip to Tennessee on December 10th-13th. Cost is $649 per person for double occupancy.
