Area artists always look forward to Mint Hill Arts’ Annual Cheap Joe’s Demonstration. Products old and new are discussed and demonstrated. This year’s program will feature Brandon Henri, Store Manager at Cheap Joe’s, whose demonstration is titled, “Mark Making from the ‘Ground’ Up.” This will be an in-depth discussion of creating art, describing the ground or coating applied to canvas, panels, and paper; explaining various mediums; and discussing the drawing tools available to apply the mediums. It promises to be an information-rich presentation.
Henri holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he won awards in both studio art and art history. His work has been included in numerous exhibitions. A gallery of his work can be found on his website (www.bdhart.com) where he also shares the inspiration for his art. There he explains that his paintings are process-based, harnessing the destructive properties of such phenomena as oxidation, combustion, flooding, and freezing on commercial pigments.
The demonstration will be from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, at the gallery at 11205 Lawyers Road in Mint Hill. The demonstration is free and open to the public.
