Stanly Community College (SCC) and the Albemarle Department of Parks and Recreation have formed a partnership to provide educational services to the community through the E.E. Waddell Center in Albemarle. Individuals with limited transportation, computers and internet access can now take advantage of those services at the E.E. Waddell Center.
This past spring, a leadership team formed to find creative ways to open SCC’s educational doors even wider. Team members included Lisa Kiser, Director of Parks and Recreation, Billy McRae, Director, E.E. Waddell Center, Daryl (Doc) Ellis, Program Coordinator, E.E. Waddell Center, Marcus Pryor, SCC Associate Dean of Students and Career Placement, Tom George, SCC Dean of Marketing/PIO, Michael Sperling, SCC Associate Dean of Business and Career Technology, Joe Pollard, SCC eLearning Activities Coordinator, and Patrick Holyfield, SCC Dean of Enrollment Management.
“Stanly Community College is committed to fostering our partnership with the E.E. Waddell Center. Everyone deserves an opportunity for success,” stated Dr. Enamait, SCC President. “Some of our students face huge obstacles that keep them from finishing the programs they start. Our mission is to ensure each student has the opportunity to reach their educational goal and to remove barriers that may block their progress.”
Dominekia Glenn, a mother of six children, is currently studying online for her Business Administration degree at the E.E. Waddell Center. “My plan after obtaining my degree at SCC is to transfer to Western Carolina University,” Ms. Glenn said. “I want to pursue my master’s degree. My dream is to become a business consultant helping others to set-up and maintain existing businesses and corporations.”
Ms. Glenn chose to take online classes at the E.E. Waddell Center for many reasons. “Not only is the Center convenient and family friendly, but they have a track, a basketball facility, and an outdoor playground that the kids can play at while I study and take courses online. If I need a mental break they also have weight and fitness rooms for me to get a quick workout in,” she explained. “I feel confident with every semester that passes that I am on the right track. I believe the best part about the program is the phenomenal amount of resources that are available to me. When I finish at Stanly Community College, I will definitely be prepared for my future.”
Additional plans for the E.E. Waddell Center include articulation agreements with 4-year colleges that will enable students to obtain an associate degree from Stanly Community College, then transfer to a 4-year college to earn a bachelor’s degree, either on campus or online at the E.E. Waddell Center.
