
MINT HILL, NC – The Lady Patriots from Independence High School dominated the West Mecklenburg Hawks in a blowout victory over the visitors at home recently in a non-conference matchup at “The Big I” in “The Pit.”
Independence started this basketball game with an early 18-0 run. Sharp shooting standout Kamryn Kitchen scored 9 points in the opening 5 minutes before she was pulled by coach Lauren Galvani as the coach began rotating players. Meanwhile Jessica Worthey added 5 points and Chloe Moss hit 2 jump shots for the home team. The first period ended with the Lady Patriots up 24-4.
The Indy coach put her starters back in and began to build up a huge advantage over the Lady Hawks. Kitchen, Moss, Kamora Brown and Jai’lun Brimmer all added 5 points each while drilling four 3- pointers in the period expanding their edge to a commanding 50-6 lead against the overmatched visitors.
The second half was much of the same. However, the Lady Patriots played most of their solid bench players giving them additional real game exposure for future more competitive contests that will definitely be coming up very soon based on their schedule. Lilly Todd scored 4 points, and Moss added 4 more in the third period to lead the Patriots scoring. After three periods Indy had a 72-11 advantage.
In the final period, Hannah Moss swished a nifty 3-pointer to start the scoring giving Indy a 75-11 edge. Brown, Moss, and Lola Cabaniss-Ali all added baskets to complete the scoring and the rout 81-16 giving the Lady Patriots their third win of the season.
Kamryn Kitchen lead all scorers with 16 points, Moss 15, Hannah Moss 9, Brimmer 9, Worthey 7, Cabaniss-Ali 7, and Todd 6 to lead the scoring for the Lady Patriots. The top scorer for the Lady Hawks was Janese Barrier who drilled two 3-pointers for the visitors.
