MINT HILL, NC – After 29 years on the job as a Real Estate agent (Realtor) and a Broker, Karen Fuller Parsons knows a thing or two about the housing market and its trends. She has maintained the title of Charlotte’s Top Producers and a multimillion-dollar producer throughout her career. As a Charlotte native who refers to herself as a “country girl with city experience,” she has been successfully navigating her clientele through the vigorous market changes.

Initially, Karen had the idea of being a real estate agent through her mother, who was also in the business for 30 years. As a mother with young children, Karen was encouraged to pursue real estate due to the flexibility in scheduling, learning the craft from her mother, and the ability to use her marketing degree doing something she loved. To be a successful Real estate agent, Karen states, “You’ve got to put in a lot of legwork to get your career up, with a steady clientele base.”

As a RE/MAX Executive agent serving in the Charlotte area, maintaining relationships, and learning the skills of advising clients on the right time to buy or sell is a huge responsibility. Karen suggests having patience and not settling. This is part of the job that shows the importance of being a trusted advisor. It is best practice to show clients what houses are selling for in their neighborhood, and to recommend not overpaying.  “If the market does start to shift, you don’t want them to be upside down” she states.

To keep up in a fast-moving market, one of the tips for a successful business is to have a great assistant and team. Karen states, “Patricia Coleman, my licensed assistant, handles the day-to-day operations and also shows properties when needed. She has been with me for over 7 years and literally is the backbone to my business.” Having the extra hands helps when Karen is handling clients in the field. Simultaneously, Patricia prepares the paperwork, quickly resulting in offers for her to present.

Karen has expressed her passion and love for helping others to find their perfect homes. She shares the ways on how to establish a solid and reliable client base. “Referrals are the backbone of building a solid client base; you start by listing a home, finding the sellers a new home and creating that relationship that trickles down to working other family members, like parents, children and extended family members,” she explains. “When the job is handled with precision, the referrals continue to come.” Inherently, she indicated “my clients are like family to me.”

Every day is different in real estate. Karen mentions another part of being successful in this business is adaptability: the ability to keep cool, and adapt to changes that may come up such as “inspection/repair issues, market changes, finance challenges, you never know the obstacles that might come up in a transaction. Nothing is the same in a day of doing Real Estate.” The goal for her is going from your kitchen table, to the closing table letting her navigate your family and you through the transaction.
