MINT HILL, NC – Happy’s Grill has been part of the Mint Hill community for over two decades. Leo and his wife purchased the business in 2003. It has always been a great place to enjoy breakfast and chat with the regulars. “It was considered by many as their CHEERS where everyone knew your name and were very pleasant and welcoming when you entered the restaurant,” said Ed Jones, who would frequently stop by to enjoy the food and conversation.
Leo and his wife sold the restaurant to new ownership effective Monday, February 20, 2023. What made this place special was that Leo would make delicious and large loaves of breads, including cinnamon swirl. Leo also baked his own hamburger buns, hot dog buns, dinner rolls, and biscuits. On weekends, he would offer his baked biscuits with sausage gravy, served with fresh ingredients with large size portions, and if you were a regular customer, he would add a little extra to your plate. Another favorite was two biscuits with a slice of country ham, or bacon or sausage patties, if you preferred. It’s a friendly environment where you could have a good breakfast, stop by for lunch, and leave satisfied that your appetite was filled because the portions were always large and tasty.
Happy’s Grill has a hometown feeling, a little hole in the wall in a strip mall located in Lawyers Square, but those who enjoy good food from the grill at an affordable price with large portions would frequent the restaurant. When Mint Hill police officers and Mint Hill firefighters stop in to eat at a particular location, it usually indicates an establishment is a good place for local dining.
We wish Leo and his wife a pleasant retirement and thank them for their hospitality for two decades of service to the Mint Hill community.
