Students in the Digital Photography Certificate program at Stanly Community College (SCC) recently completed their training. A graduation ceremony was held on August 28 on the Albemarle Campus in the Whitley Technology Center. Sylvia Lewis, SCC Director of Business and Career Technologies, welcomed the students and guests for the ceremony. Austin Poole, SCC Digital Photography Instructor, gave opening remarks and encouraged the students to keep learning, keep reaching, and keep seeking.
Students gave visual storytelling presentations during the ceremony and a reception and photography exhibit followed.
The Digital Photography Certificate program is designed to deliver students with knowledge and skills necessary to work independently or assist professionals in various areas of photography. Students received training in the photographic techniques specific to portraiture and visual storytelling and portfolio design.
Coursework included in-depth study of location techniques, lighting, digital imaging, retouching, and layout design. Additional topics included the study of sports, features and photo stories.
This year, students were able to visit the Biltmore Estates, Downtown Albemarle (including the old Opera House), Old Salem, Korner’s Folly, Lazy 5 Ranch, and the Heroes Convention in Charlotte over the course of the program.
The next Digital Photography course begins on September 11. For more information, please contact Cindi Poole at cpoole5549@stanly.edu or (704) 991-0331, or visit www.stanly.edu.
