The Independence High School AFJROTC Cadets of NC-022 worked as mentors an obstacle course marshals at the Xcel 2 Fitness (X2F) event on the school’s campus recently. The event embodied what the JROTC program is all about, making better citizens through community service volunteering.
X2F is an after school activity based character development program serving boys in the third through fifth grades. The mission of the program is to assist young boys to learn how to overcome obstacles preventing them from moving forward to pursue their dreams.
The activities encourage and empower kids to be “Dream Chasers” by teaching the importance of reaching for the stars, to pursue their passion, learn how to build a support team for guidance, develop the grit and determination to overcome any obstacles in their path preventing the youngsters from achieving their goals.
One might say, these kids are a little young to know their passion, or how to achieve their goals. However, it is never to soon to begin to build a solid foundation as a springboard into any future endeavors.
The cadets serve the program by engaging youngsters in fun fitness games and challenges designed to build confidence and strong character traits. No matter what their skill or ability level might be, the activities are designed to encourage personal achievement through a team based atmosphere.
According to Executive Director, Xcel 2 Fitness, Charlotte Jesse Woolsey, the cadets displayed enthusiasm and excitement, it became contagious and overflowed into everyone in attendance.
There will be some big plans for a fall event in November, so if anyone is interested in empowering more Dream Chasers, please contact Jesse at 585-610-7673, or go to their website at www.x2f.org/charlotte.
The cadets at Independence and the JROTC instructors along with the Brigade Commander and Senior Instructor, LTC Jeffrey Jenkins will be making plans to participate again during the upcoming school year.
