Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 29 for the 19th annual Kerri D. Efird Memorial Scholarship Bike Run. The event is an annual fundraiser for the KDE Memorial Scholarship. Scholarships are awarded each year to graduating West Stanly High School seniors.
The event will be held, rain or shine, at West Stanly High School (WSHS). Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the ride will leave at 10 a.m. Participants will ride as a group with escort to Cox’s Harley-Davidson in Asheboro, then will return as a group to WSHS.
Don’t ride? No worries. Everyone is invited for the fun and fellowship before and after the ride.
A much loved part of the event is the annual ride shirt, which features Winnie-the-Pooh, in memory of Kerri’s nickname “Kerri Pooh,” and frogs, which stand for “Fully Rely On God.”
Once the bikers return to WSHS, the event will continue into the afternoon with a BBQ lunch, desserts, snowcones and raffle prizes. All ages are welcome to attend this family event.
The cost to participate is a tax deductible donation to support the KDE Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The KDE Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Kerri Efird, daughter of Scott and Tracy Efird, who passed away in 1999 at the age of 18 from complications of cystic fibrosis. In the past 18 years, the KDE Bike Run has provided $77,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors at WSHS. The bike run is the only fundraiser for the scholarship.
