Barbara and I left Charlotte on a warm fall day in November. We had a direct flight on American Airlines and we enjoyed the view out our window as the Atlantic turned to the Caribbean sea and the blue hues took on a warm magic glow, Arrival in Montego Bay was flawless, and we were very pleasantly surprised as we were guided to the NEW international arrivals area and to immigration and customs. It only took 20 minutes from debarkation until we were in the baggage claim area to pick up our bags. I sure cannot promise that will be the average time for everyone, but the Jamaican Government has been working very hard to improve in processing times, and it was a great success for us.

In the baggage claim area, we were met by a uniformed Sandals Rep who took our bags and guided us to a private arrivals lounge. At the lounge, Barbara and I were offered refreshments (Alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and we reviewed our reservation with a Sandals Ambassador. She indicated our transportation would be ready within 20 minutes. We were able to sit back with a Rum Punch and some nibbles and read all about Jamaica, while we waited. Sure enough, they called our name and we were escorted to our transportation, while another representative handled our bags. We smiled from ear to ear when we were told that we should not have to handle our own bags again until we returned home.

We had chosen Sandals Ochi Beach Resort in Ocho Rios. Ocho Rios is best known as a popular cruise port, and perhaps equally well known for the famous Dunns River Falls. The Resort is about 90 minutes from the Montego Bay airport, along a relatively new highway. Our lively driver entertained us with facts and fun about Jamaica, regaled us with stories, and taught us the importance of terms like “Aerie” and “Ya Mon”. If one were to believe our driver, Jamaica will put the term “Wish upon a Star” into an entirely new light.
