We Have Been There – Part 2

Our first resort will be Oasis Grand, Quntana Roo, Cancun, Mexico. This is a family resort. Despite any ads you may see, they do not enforce any Adults-Only areas in this resort. They have also leased the Adults-Only Sens resort to another company.

Location

In the heart of the area known as The Hotel Zone, this is an established and popular hotel complex. The Hotel Zone is a near Peninsula outside Cancun City. From the mainland, this zone extends for several miles, with the ocean on one side, and a lagoon on the other. There are over 100 resorts, hotels, and restaurants along a single highway, with almost every resort fronting on the ocean side. It is about 15 minutes from the Cancun Airport (CUN), with readily available transportation. You should always reserve your reservations for transfers ahead of time through providers such as Lomas, Best Day, or Cancun Transportation Company. Our transfers cost us $25 each way, for 2 people and luggage.

Lobby and Reception

The lobby is the heart of the resort. There are stores, restaurants, bars, and the only casino in the Hotel Zone. Reception is by the category of room you have chosen, and there are four separate reception areas. We were welcomed at the Pyramid VIP section, where we had access to refreshments, champagne, and comfortable seating. The wait to be checked in was very short. We were given our wristbands, and an informative talk about the resort’s amenities, our rooms, restaurants, and were even given a chance to make dinner reservations for that evening. Our luggage was taken to our room for us by staff, and we were given an overview of how to use all the amenities in our room.

Rooms

Our room was a Pyramid Beachfront Walkout Concierge Room with patio Jacuzzi tub. The room was about 300 sq. ft. with another 100 sq. ft. of patio, fronting on the beach. We had WiFi, telephone, and TV service that offered about 18 channels. Air conditioning was very good. The bathroom, shower and vanity were adequate for our needs. The patio Jacuzzi had to be cleaned and turned on by staff, due to some mechanical problems. Once turned on it had to be left on. We elected not to have the Jacuzzi turned on. There was a concierge desk located about 20 yards from our room. The concierge makes restaurant reservations, books tours, provides room services and a great deal of information. The Pyramid is the highest level of room category. Other categories include the Oasis Grand category and the Oasis Lite category. Room location and size, plus the number of included restaurants, improve with each room upgrade.

We’ll continue this resort next week.
