Skunks

Spring is in the air. Breathe deeply and enjoy the honeysuckle , jasmine and wild flowers.

First thing in the morning you might notice a hint of skunk in your neighborhood.  If you are really unfortunate your dog or cat might come home reeking of fresh skunk.

What do you do? My first thought is to run. If you do that your dog will probably chase you. I guess you need a better solution. I’ve heard people use tomato juice though I’ve never tried it.

One sure remedy is this recipe we have used for years:

1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide from the drug store
1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate )
1 teaspoon liquid dish soap

Apply mixture with a sponge soaking well. Let set a few minutes. Rinse well and apply some Suave or other hair conditioner. Rinse again. This mixture is very drying to skin hence the conditioner. Wear old clothes and heavy kitchen gloves to protect your skin too.
For larger dogs double or triple the recipe.

If you use this let me know how it works, or doesn’t.  If you have any questions call 704-888-4637
