CHARLOTTE – Brrrr, those colder temperatures came a little early this year!
Here’s a simple list of things you can do to help with that winter electricity bill.
1. Change it
Dirty filters use more energy to force airflow through the system. Now is a good time to change them to make sure your system is working sufficiently. Having a heating and air company do an evaluation of your system is also a good idea!
2. Reverse it
Set your ceiling fans so that when you are looking up the blades are spinning clockwise. This will help circulate the warm air in your home.
3. Let the Daylight in
Windows with direct sunlight may benefit from having the blinds up during daylight hours, as sunlight can help heat the space. Using drapes and blinds helps reduce heat loss through windows after the direct sunlight moves.
4. Don’t leak it
Warm air will escape out of any cracks and can make your heating system
work harder which results in costing you more to heat your home. Use caulk to seal cracks and openings between stationary house components like a door frame and weatherstripping to seal components that move like a window.
5. Outsmart it
Using Smart devices such as a Smart Meter, a Smart thermostat, and Smart Appliances monitor energy use and adjust where needed to save electricity.
