It’s Independence Day! My family loves celebrating the Fourth of July. We love attending a parade and community celebration, cooking out with family, and watching fireworks as we celebrate America’s birthday. July 4th is also my youngest son’s birthday which means double the celebration for us!
This year, we have invited family to enjoy a cookout at our house. A Fourth of July cookout needs lots of red, white and blue treats! My kids like to help in the kitchen especially when we’re making desserts. Here are a few fun, patriotic treat ideas to make with the kids.
Happy Fourth!
- Flag cookies. Spread frosting on a graham cracker. Add blueberries and sliced strawberries to create a flag design.
- Fruit kabobs. Assemble your red, white and blue kabobs using strawberries, blueberries and marshmallows.
- Frozen banana pops. Peel bananas and cut in half. Place on a popsicle stick and freeze for several hours. Once frozen, dip into melted chocolate and decorate with red, white and blue sprinkles.
- Ice cream sandwiches. Bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Once cool, spread vanilla ice cream between two cookies to create an ice cream sandwich. Roll the edges in red, white and blue sprinkles for a patriotic finish.
