Family Valentine Mailboxes

Valentine’s Day is a great day to celebrate family. It’s a day to be a little bit more intentional than usual in showing love to one another.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about expensive gifts. (Although, chocolate is always nice!) Something as simple and easy as creating family love letter mailboxes can be a fun and meaningful way to celebrate Valentine’s Day together. Kind notes are certain to make everyone in the family feel special and loved.

Here are instructions for the Family Valentine Mailbox Project:

  1. Choose a container. Each family member needs their own mailbox. Empty tissue boxes, shoe boxes, or oatmeal containers work well for this project.
  2. Decorate the mailboxes. Cover the containers with brightly colored construction paper or wrapping paper and let the kids decorate with markers, paper hearts, or sequins.
  3. Write love notes. Cut out paper hearts and place them in a stack near the mailboxes. Each day until Valentine’s Day, each family member should write notes to all other family members and place the notes in each person’s mailbox. Older children can write “I love you because…” Younger children can draw pictures or have a parent write for them.
  4. Read the notes. On Valentine’s Day, each person can empty the notes from their mailbox and read the many reasons they are loved.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
