CHARLOTTE – Stretching is like anything else in this world, there are pros to it, as well as cons. In my practice, I’ve found that stretching does have more advantages it and can be a great addition to your overall wellness program.
Who benefits the most? If you feel “tight” or feel as if your body has a limited range of motion, then stretching would likely enhance your wellbeing. First off, what is stretching? Stretching is the practice of exercising a particular muscle group. The muscle groups are flexed in order to improve elasticity and enhance muscle tone.
What should you expect once you integrate stretching into your wellness routine? You should see improved flexibility, range of motion and have a feeling of increased muscle control. Why is stretching important? Stretching helps to keep muscles (in addition to joints, tendons, ligaments) healthy, flexible and strong. The flexibility helps with your range of motion as well as keeping your muscles ready for action. Once your brain calls on your body to do a job (for instance, to step forward and off the curb), then because you’ve already warmed up your musculature, your body is ready to carry out its job.
Stretching is a great way to warm up your muscles and joints, and it’s also a great way to warm down and relax your muscles and joints. You can get ready for activity by stretching as well as cool down your body by stretching. It’s also a great way to connect your mind with your body.
