You spoke and I listened Part 3

Day 7 takes us into the Black hills of South Dakota. On or way we view Devils Tower, which rises 1300 feet above the river bed. Theodore Roosevelt actually proclaimed this as America’s First Monument.. The Black Hills give rise to the town of Deadwood, established after the Gold Rush of the 1870 era. We are thrilled to join an original Kevin Kostner Deadwood Tour, where we hear stories about such characters as Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane. The it is on to Rapid City South Dakota, where we have opted for the Mount Rushmore Adventure. WOW, Mount Rushmore. We had read about it and seen so many pictures, but none did it justice. It is a thrill to see it up close. The Magical Illuminations Ceremony was a true memory maker. Tonight we enjoy dinner and the views at the Rushmore Hotel.

Day 8 is our final tour day. We travel to see the Crazy Horse Memorial, then on to Mount Rushmore. The Presidential Carvings by sculptor Gutzon Borglum celebrates “ the founding, expansion, preservation and unification of the United States”. Everyone on the tour was truly overwhelmed with emotion as we were told the story of the construction, and dedication, of this great monument. After we get our breath back, we head back to Rapid City and the Rushmore Hotel. We had forgotten that tonight’s included farewell dinner was a show by local artist Stephen yellowhawk. He shared his stories of the history of his people through song, dance, and storytelling. What an experience!

Day 9 is a great day as we share our memories, and exchange contact information with our fellow travelers, over a very nice included breakfast. The we are each on our own to return home, full of memories and a new itch to see more of this great country.
