CHARLOTTE – New to the Caribbean this year will be Ocean Cay Marine Reserve for MSC Cruises. A private island in the Bahama Islands, this former research facility has been turned into a private stop for MSC Cruises out of Miami. Not only will passengers be able to enjoy the beach on this private island, but there is lots of time for learning about Marine Life and contributing to the preservation of the oceans and Coral. There is a full-time team of Marine Biologists at the research station and they will be sharing knowledge with passengers. MSC will sail 3, 4 and7 night cruises to the Caribbean from US Ports this fall.

NCL, or Norwegian Cruise Line, will introduce the Norwegian Prima new this season. This class of ship seems to reflect a desire to stay with a winner. Instead of the mega-ships, holding 6,000 passengers plus crew. Instead, this ship will embark with 3,215 passengers at double occupancy. The Breakaway class of ships was about the same size, but with a passenger ratio to tonnage of 38.5. The original Sun Class of ships were smaller, but also had a ratio of 38.5. This ship has a ratio of 44.3. It may well be a reflection of the efforts cruise lines are making to building in activities and adventures on the upper decks. NCL has been offering“Free at Sea” specials from time to time, that can include up to five different“Extras” free of charge. Categories such as adult drinks, full dining at all venues, shore excursions, Wi-Fi, and gratuities can all be included. Recently they offered“Two for One” airfare to embarkation ports.
