CHARLOTTE – We could play pool on tournament tables, shuffleboard on a shuffleboard table, play cards or slots in the casino, or lounge in a whirlpool that was suspended 18 stories over the side of the ship. We could run on a jogging track, work out in the fully equipped gym, or play basketball on a regulated outdoor court. One day on board, we opted to take a ride in the Observation Arm on the top deck. Up to 10 passengers get to ride in an all-glass ball, suspended from an articulating arm 50 feet long. When the arm is at its highest point and swings out over the side of the ship – well hold onto something!!! You are 20 stories plus 50 feet above the water in a glass ball. I think Royal got the trademark “WOW” from this experience. Some other things we could do were “Fly” in the only skydiving simulator at sea, climb a “Rock Wall”, or just chill in the pool areas on board> There really were enough chairs for everyone to have one. The Soft Ice Cream machine was one of my favorites. There was an entertainment venue onboard where they presented a marvel of digital entertainment. A complete show was put on with the assistance of robotic arms that moved the background as the play unfolded. Things came out from the walls and scenes changed, all pre-programmed by the producer. We enjoyed the show and it was just one of 5 live shows on board. On another Oasis Class ship, we were entertained by an outdoor water show that included free diving into a pool where ballet dancers had been on their toes in the water just moments before. Entertainment is non-stop at night with shows all over the ship. There are at least 15 dining venues, many of which carry an extra charge. I never did count the bars, but there were at least 35.
One thing we enjoyed on the Quantum and the Oasis class ships we have sailed is the lack of motion in the water. If you have a concern about motion sickness, I encourage you to try this class of ships. We actually had to, look out a window at the wake, to see if we really were moving. Royal Caribbean competes with Carnival and Norwegian for clients, but seems to have a very loyal client base. They are priced mainline and offer cruises in every corner of the world. WOW!
