MINT HILL, NC – With the baseball season finally in fully swing the Independence Patriots baseball team took on Hickory Ridge and won a big conference game 10-6. The Patriots had their ace on the mound in Carson Gesing who pitched a solid ballgame.

The hurler pitched 5 solid innings while allowing 3 runs, 3 hits, and accumulated 6 strikeouts while tossing 104 pitches with.587 percentage in the strike zone. He pitched out of trouble in the 3rd inning by striking out a batter with the bases loaded and no outs, then he was able to get the next two batters to harmlessly hit an infield fly, and a lazy fly ball to right to end the threat without giving up a run. He left the game with a commanding 9-3 lead to pick up his first win of the young season.

Against Ardrey Kell a non-conference ballgame he went 3-5 with an RBI, while pitching 2.0 full innings allowing 2 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, and he added 4 strikeouts on 51 pitches with .549 percentage for strikes in another competitive outing.

The Sports Editor and sports writers at the Mint Hill Times want to congratulate Carson Gesing for being selected this week’s “Featured Player of the Week” for his efforts on the mound and offensive contribution.
