A Summer Reading Children’s Story Time program will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Oakboro Library.



Visit Discovery Place Kids in Huntersville from 4-7 p.m. for the fifth annual Countdown to Kindergarten event. The free event focuses on kindergarten readiness. During the event, families can meet with local kindergarten teachers, learn what to expect at kindergarten, visit a pretend classroom and more. Beyond The Stage, a children’s theater company for kids ages 5-17, will hold an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Family Sports & Fitness in Stanfield. The City of Locust will host a free outdoor concert featuring Lauren & Lane from 6-9 p.m. in the backyard of Locust City Hall. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening of music and fun with friends and neighbors. Food vendors will be on site with items to purchase.

Children can strengthen reading skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog during the Read to the Dogs program at the Locust Library. Registration is required. Time slots are available from 4-5:30 p.m.

Wednesday, August 22

Children’s Story Time will be held at 10 a.m. at the Albemarle Main Library.

Every Wednesday at 11 a.m. children can learn about history through games, stories, crafts and activities during the History Hunters program at the Stanly County Museum. The program is designed for children ages 3-6. This week’s theme will be the history of travel. Children will make a paper plate boat. Thursday, August 23

Bouncing Babies Story Time will be held at 11 a.m. at the Albemarle Main Library. The 20 minute program features stories, songs and rhymes for babies birth through 24 months.
