Friday, May 5

The Oakboro Library will hold a special preschool story time program at 9:30 a.m. in honor of International Firefighters’ Day. A firefighter will be the guest reader for the day.



Matthews Playhouse School of Theatre will present “Once Upon A Mattress.” Show times are Friday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 6 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $9 for students and seniors.

Matthews Playhouse School of Theatre will present “The Princess and the Pea.” Show times are Saturday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $9 for students and seniors.

Sunday, May 7

Head to the ballpark in Kannapolis for an afternoon baseball game as the Intimidators take on Asheville at 2:05 p.m. Come early for the opportunity to get autographs from your favorite players and stay after the game for the kids to run the bases.

Monday, May 8

Preschool Story Time and Activities will be held at the Locust Library at 10:30 a.m. The fun includes stories, games and crafts for children age two to five. Call or visit the library to register. The program follows the Stanly County Schools calendar and does not meet when school is out.

Wednesday, May 10

A Mother’s Day themed story time and craft program will be held at 10 a.m. at the Albemarle Main Library.

Thursday, May 11

Bouncing Babies Story Time will be held at 11 a.m. at the Albemarle Main Library. The 20 minute program features stories, songs and rhymes for babies birth through 24 months.

Children can strengthen reading skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog during the Read to the Dogs program at the Locust Library. The program is held on the second Thursday of each month. Registration is required. Time slots are available from 4-5:30 p.m.
