Thursday, November 30

The annual Oakboro Christmas Festivities will be held Thursday, November 30. Fun activities begin at 4:30 p.m. and end with a parade at 7 p.m. Children will enjoy antique fire engine rides from 4:30-6:30 p.m. loading on Main Street across from the Memorial Park, train rides from 5-7 p.m. in the former Suntrust parking lot and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a children’s Christmas tree exhibit and free hot chocolate from 5-7 p.m. in the First Baptist Youth Center. The Oakboro Museum will be open from 5-7 p.m. featuring a Unique Family Heirlooms Exhibit. Uwharrie Bank will serve free chili from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The annual tree lighting ceremony will begin at 6:15 p.m. followed by the Christmas Parade at 7 p.m. For a full schedule of events, visit the Oakboro Regional Museum of History Facebook page.



Friday, December 1

The Children’s Theatre of Charlotte will present “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical” November 24 to December 23. Visit www.ctcharlotte.org for show times and ticket information.

Saturday, December 2

Reed Gold Mine in Midland will host A Golden Christmas from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festivities will include hay rides, holiday crafts, vintage holiday decorations, a Christmas market with vendors and demonstrators and candlelit mine tours. There is a $2 cost for hay rides (free for children 2 years old and younger).

Saturday, December 9

Wear your favorite pajamas and head to Discovery Place Science in Charlotte to experience PJs in North Pole City. The event will feature a special screening of The Polar Express in the IMAX Dome Theatre. Before the movie, children can make Christmas ornaments and reindeer food in Santa’s Workshop, write a holiday wish list and pose for a picture with Santa. The event cost is $14 for members and $17 for non-members. Two showings of PJs in North Pole City will be offered on Saturday, December 9 and one showing will be offered on Sunday, December 10. The Charlotte Hornets will take on the Los Angeles Lakers at 7 p.m. at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. Carol of the King: The Irish Dance Christmas Spectacular will be presented at the Agri-Civic Center in Albemarle at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Thursday, December 14

Bouncing Babies Story Time will be held at 11 a.m. at the Albemarle Main Library. The 20 minute program features stories, songs and rhymes for babies birth through 24 months.

Children can strengthen reading skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog during the Read to the Dogs program at the Locust Library. The program is held on the second Thursday of each month. Registration is required. Time slots are available from 4-5:30 p.m.
