On the first Saturday of each month, the Stanly County Museum will offer a STEM program for children in K-5th grade. Due to Labor Day, this month’s program will be held a week late. This month, children will learn about the volcanic origins of Morrow Mountain, how lava influenced the lives of local Native Americans and will create lava slime to take home. The 6th annual Stanly County Dancing with the Stars will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center in Albemarle. Doors open at 6 p.m. The event benefits the Butterfly House, an organization which provides services for child victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect. Ticket prices are $30 for the mezzanine and $20 for the balcony. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Stanly Health Foundation at 980-323-4103 or can be purchased at Starnes Jewelers in Albemarle or Locust Health Center in Locust. On Saturdays in September, Discovery Place will offer free admission to educators and one guest. Free admission is available at any of the Discovery Place museums including Discovery Place Science, Discovery Place Nature, Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville and Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham. To receive free admission, educators must present a valid school ID or NCDNPE homeschool certificate.

Preschool Story Time will be held at 9:15 a.m. at the Locust Library. This week’s theme is pirates.
Wednesday, September 13
Children’s Story Time will be held at 10 a.m. at the Albemarle Main Library.
A children’s history program will be held at 11 a.m. at the Stanly County Museum. This week, children will learn about the history of photography, will study old photographs of Stanly County residents and will create a picture and picture frame to take home.
Thursday, September 14
Bouncing Babies Story Time will be held at 11 a.m. at the Albemarle Main Library. The 20 minute program features stories, songs and rhymes for babies birth through 24 months.
