Every Spring as the world thaws out and the flowers begin to bloom, scores of teenage girls head to malls and boutiques in the hunt for the perfect gown, shoes, handbags, and accessories for the pinnacle high school prom night.
The night can easily be a costly one, especially after manicures, pedicures, and an hour in the hair stylist’s chair are finished, and lastly an elegant dinner uptown and the final journey to the anticipated prom.
Prom goers can expect to spend a pretty penny on the night, but according to Patsy Street at West Stanly Christian Ministries, this doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, the selection of gently used and new prom dresses at the thrift shop can cost as low as $10 and will never be more than $15.
“Most of the dresses have only been worn one time. Some of them are still brand new and have the tags on them,” said Street, manager of West Stanly Christian Ministries. Continue reading
