Have you wanted to have a bigger role in the safety of your community? Now you have the chance, says Stanly County Sheriff Rick Burris.

According to the sheriff’ department, citizens now have the chance to join a partnership in the fight against crime by becoming honorary members of th North Carolina Sheriffs Association.

The N.C. Sheriff’s As sociation is a statewide organization of the state’ 100 Sheriffs, which works to strengthen the professional law enforcement service of the office of each sheriff. The association is also recognized nationwide for professional standards and training.

According to the Sheriff’s office, ‘The Honorar Membership Program wa created to provide citizen with an opportunity to lend their support to more effective law enforcement and to better help local Sheriffs protect the lives and property of citizens.”

Membership applications will go out in the mail during March. Residents wishing to become Honorar Members can sign up for the program by contacting the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office. Individuals can join the voluntary program for $25 and businesses can lend their support with $50 contributions. All contributions are tax-deductible and the funding provides important technical resources, legislative support on criminal justice issues, and more training and education opportunities.

“As the need for building stronger public-private law enforcement partnerships in this country continues to escalate, programs such as this continue to grow in importance,” said Burrs. “I encourage everyone receiving a membership application to consider joining forces with us by becoming an Honorary Member. It is a valuable investment in our future.”
