On the anniversary of D-Day, U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (NC) today honored veterans of World War II who courageously stormed the Normandy beaches.
“Today, we remember the thousands of troops who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944,” said Hagan. “I am honored and privileged to welcome our North Carolina veterans who participate in the Honor Flights to Washington DC to visit the national memorial in their honor. Their courage and dedication are inspiration to us all. We will never forget our D-Day heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of liberty and freedom.”
Senator Hagan comes from a strong military family. Her father and brother both served in the Navy. Her husband, Chip, is a Vietnam veteran, and two of her nephews have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hagan’s father-in-law, Charlie Hagan, was a two-star Marine General and veteran of WWII.
