Congressman Larry Kissell (NC-08) attended the North Carolina Missions of Mercy free dental clinic in New London on Saturday. During his visit, Kissell met with clinic organizers as well as Stanly County residents there to receive dental care.
The clinic was held from 8 am-5 pm on Friday and Saturday with just under 500 people coming in for treatment over the two days, according to Dr. Will Rabe, a member of Highland Baptist and an Oral Surgeon who practices in Asheboro.
“The value of this program can’t be overstated,” said Kissell. “Dental care is vital to good overall health, and some families just can’t afford it right now. Missions of Mercy is providing an invaluable service in conducting these clinics, and I am very proud and thankful they are holding some of them in our district.”
The North Carolina Missions of Mercy program is a 501(c)(3) portable free dental clinic that was founded in 2004. The program aims to provide free weekend clinics of dental care to as many North Carolina residents it can, involving as many members of the professional dental community as possible.
