From Oakboro Police Chief Joe Lowder:

One of our local cafes received a call last week asking that a large order of chicken sandwiches be made up for a special event. The caller gave a credit card number and askedĀ  the server to charge 5 times the amount due and to keep a portion of the difference for their trouble and to give the truck driver that was coming to pick up the order the remaining difference. Needless to say the server immediately recognized that this was a scam andĀ refused the order. This type of scam was perpetrated in Charlotte a week or so ago. Please remember that during the Christmas and New Year Seasons, that scammers and thieves will be abundant. REMEMBER, LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS!! Do not leave gifts or valuables visible inside your car. It only takes a second to ruin your holiday.
