Traffic accident causes outage
A truck hit an electirc pole on Hwy. 24/27 near Walmart in Locust on Tuesday morning, March 2, resulting in a dangerous situation for workers and travelers. Highway Patrol, Stanly County Sheriffs and Locust Police officers stood for 12 hours in the rain and snow as power line workers tried to move the lines from the cracked pole. High voltage power lines swung dangerously close to the ground. Tractor trailers had to be rerouted down Brown’s Hill Road to avoid the problem while cars were waved through cautiously. The power was out as far down as the corner of Hwys. 24/27 and 601 in Midland for about two hours.
